One Wish Project- An afternoon of organ music

  • Posted on 4th March 2024

Katherine House resident, John, was once the chairman of a music ‘Organ Society’ and he spent many years attending organ festivals and concerts with his late wife; these memories are very close to John’s heart.

John was given an opportunity to have a special occasion as part of our ‘One Wish Project’ programme. Wellbeing Coordinator Sabina, along with John’s daughter, arranged for a musician to come in to play John’s favourite songs on a keyboard in ‘organ mode’. John and his family members were given front row seats and Wellbeing Assistant, Raj, decorated the dining room in sparkling garlands to raise excitement for the event. John’s fellow residents and friends in Katherine House joined in to watch and listen, with the wonderful music creating much merriment, with people singing along and dancing.

It was clear to see that the music therapy was having an incredible effect on improving John’s mood, supporting his memory and giving him a relaxing experience to share with his loved ones. John and his family seemed very moved by the music and told us how much they appreciated the effort that our Wellbeing Team had put in to creating such a lovely experience.
